Company History
Expertise and innovation have made Cantsink a trusted provider of helical piles for 30 years.
Patrick Hutchinson founded Cantsink (first known as H&H Construction) in 1988 dedicated to bringing his proven experience in lasting foundation stability to the Metro Atlanta construction industry.
In five years before founding Cantsink, Hutchinson built and serviced more than 700 homes. Through that experience, he saw the unmet need for ongoing structural and foundation repair for Metro Atlanta homes. This prompted him to focus his skill and experience on providing lasting value to this important work with craftsmanship that assured customers of lasting value and quality service. His reputation for service and effectiveness quickly spread.
Cantsink’s work attracted its first two clients: Home Owners Warranty and Home Builders Warranty. These firms settled warranty claims by homeowners and builders with lasting repairs from Cantsink, most of them the result of foundations built on poor soil conditions.
As the company grew, Hutchinson surrounded himself with a team of skilled, dedicated professionals, further extending its growing reputation for quality foundation repair and stabilization products, customer service and unsurpassed value. Relationships formed early in the company’s history have continued into the present. These relationships include some of Metro Atlanta’s most respected residential and commercial builders – such as Trammell Crow Construction and Skanska USA – as well as such notable companies and institutions such as Georgia Power, MEAG Power, and local governments throughout the state. Cantsink’s quality, service and cost-effectiveness have made it an indispensable partner in lasting structural value for homes, commercial operations and trusted institutions.
Cantsink hired its first in-house engineer and began fabricating its own piles for use in foundation repairs. With its growing aptitude for foundation issues and solutions, the company began to create unique products designed to provide maximum stability under a wide range of conditions.
In the 30 years since its launch, Cantsink has continued to refine and improve its unique, patented techniques and products for foundation support and repair. Helical piles are extremely versatile and adaptable to nearly any soil or weather conditions. Wetlands and sandy soil are no problem for Cantsink helical piers.
Increasingly versatile in its applications, Cantsink’s reputation for quality foundation repair and stabilization engineering products and guaranteed results inspired a wide range of projects, including a series of boardwalk projects in Jonesboro, Lilburn, Roswell, Augusta and other cities. Cantsink helical piers support some of the region’s most visible landmarks, such as the distinctive Water Wall outside the Center for Civil and Human Rights in downtown Atlanta as well as signature features at Fernbank Science Museum and the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
Cantsink completed construction of a new manufacturing facility in 2007. With that facility in operation, the company focused on fast turnaround for orders on its patented helical piles and a range of accessories. In 2018, the company completed an expansion of the 2007 facility that added 60,000 square feet to its manufacturing and storage capacity.
The company took a bold step in 2010, converting its entire operation to run entirely on solar energy. The installation of solar generating arrays at both its headquarters and manufacturing facility made it a net zero operation. Customers benefit from its lower energy costs, which are passed on to customers through lower costs. In addition, the helical design of Cantsink piers not only yields 50% greater capacity, it also reduces waste in the manufacturing process. Less waste means even more cost savings for customers.
Through Hutchinson’s leadership and influence, the International Code Council created a set of industry quality standards for helical pier foundation products: AC358, a designation that includes helical piers in globally recognized business code. The ICC is an independent, member-focused association dedicated to developing model codes and standards used in the design, build and compliance process to construct safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient structures.
After rigorous testing, the ICC first certified Cantsink’s helical pier products after determining they provide the lasting foundation support promised. This evaluation included compliance with U.S. and International building codes. Since then, 36 Cantsink helical piers have received ICC certification.
The patented helix of Cantsink steel piers features its specially fabricated design with a unique helix plate at the lower end of the 2 7/8” steel shaft that is easy to install and virtually undetectable once placed. Cantsink’s special design not only yields helical piers with 50% greater helix capacity than any other steel piers on the market, it also makes the installation process more environmentally responsible. All Cantsink products are made with 100% U.S. steel.
Cantsink’s team of professionals includes general contractors and engineers with combined experience of more than 100 years in foundation repair and stabilization. Their expertise and dedication has built and maintained Cantsink’s reputation as a leading innovator in the foundation industry.
