Automotive Parts Warehouse - Tank Silo
SITUATION
Cantsink was called to an existing automotive parts warehouse located at 375 Satellite Blvd, Suwanee, GA. The project focused on the facility's loading dock area, where the property owner was planning to install four new tank silos. To ensure the stability and load-bearing capacity of the silos, additional foundation support was necessary. Following the recommendations from the geotechnical report, the decision was made to install helical piles, a solution known for its reliability and ability to handle heavy loads in various soil conditions.
SCOPE OF WORK
Cantsink was tasked with installing 32 helical piles to support the
new tank silos. The piles were selected based on the required load
capacity, with each pile needing to support a working load of 25 kips
and an ultimate load of 50 kips. The installation took place in a single
day, ensuring minimal disruption to the existing facility's operations.
The installation depth for each pile ranged from 21 to 63 feet, with
the helical piles being placed in strategic locations to provide optimal
support for the new silos.
ANCHOR SYSTEM
For this project, Cantsink installed 2.5-40L07-12 helical piles, which
were selected due to their suitability for the load requirements of the
tank silos. These piles were installed using an Eskridge 5016-21F54
drive head, ensuring the proper depth and torque were achieved for
maximum load-bearing capacity. The helical pile configuration was
chosen to provide excellent support for both the compression and
lateral load requirements of the silos, ensuring long-term stability.
RESULT
The project was completed successfully, with all 32 helical piles installed to the specified depths and meeting the required load capacities. The installation was completed within one day, exceeding expectations for efficiency and performance. With the new foundation system in place, the property owner now has the peace of mind that the tank silos will be securely supported, with structural integrity maintained for the long term.
